Borders Stepped up its Offerings on its Site
If you go to Borders Media you will find wonderful video interviews with authors, learn about Borders 01 radio and the new daily show with Mel Robbins daily from 1pm - 3pm. Things looks really good but you have to have a newer computer to take advantage of all of the bells and whistles. And if you love things that are just too cute on the Web you have to see the Magic Shelf. It is virtual book shelves with all of the major categories that allow you to brose. It states that you can customize but at the time of this update every time we tried to do so an error appeared on the screen. No matter it is indeed an indication of the wonderful thing coming down the line at www.Borders.com.
Looks Like E-Books are Here to Stay
Amid much doubt and skepticism circulating around the release of Amazon’s Kindle and its competitor Sony’s Digital Reader it appears these electronic readers are taking hold. According to Jeff Bezos from Amazon, Kindle accounts for over 6% of the book sales on his site. Publishers are vowing to make more titles available in this format. It’s no wonder as e-books represent the fastest growing category for publishers.
With the announcement of thie encouraging news about the devices, the price of the Kindle has dropped. Introduced 6 months ago, they sold for $399. The Kindle is now available for $359. It looks like the Sony’s pricing is a bit less. Keep in mind there are add on like chargers, covers and book lights to buy for both of these devices. Think i-pod and you will have the idea.
There will most likely be more price reductions which should make for good sales at the holidays. After all if you don’t have a device you cannot take advantage nor purchase e-books.
If you have a Kindle or a Digital Reader we would love to hear from you. Please send your comment to: falise@248bookclub.com.
